Well, that’s going to do it. Time to end this thing.
After twelve years and way more than 600 posts (including over 70 book and 70 movie reviews), I just don’t have the enthusiasm to continue doing this.
I’ll keep the site up, because it’s cheap enough and I have no reason to delete it. Especially since I’m actually quite happy with some of the things I’ve written, and still want to share them. There are all those book and movie reviews, for one.
There are also a couple of things that I spread out over a couple of posts, so I might as well provide an index of sorts here.
As you can tell from the tag cloud at the right, I’m a baseball fan. I had fun researching a couple of things, like who should have gotten an award if it existed at the time:
The World Series MVP – Before the Award
Cy Young Award:
Intro and 1912 – 1930
1931 – 1941
1942 – 1955
1956 – 1966
Conclusion
And if they gave some recognition to the best player on the losing team in the World Series – “The Bobby Richardson Award”:
1955 – 1976
1977 – 1994
1995 – 2023
I used a baseball game simulator to create a “best of seven” series between an All Time Mets team and a team of Polish All Stars. The Mets won the series in six games:
Introduction
Game 1
Game 2
Game 3
Game 4
Game 5
Game 6
Conclusion
Another post-count-padding exercise was to choose one movie that best represented each of the 50 states. It’s a fun exercise, since there’s so many ways to determine “best” – and they keep making movies, so any list needs regular updating:
Alabama – Kentucky
Louisiana – North Dakota
Ohio – Wyoming (and Washington DC)
And, because I could, I read a translation of the Kama Sutra and shared my thoughts:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Part 7
Writing about my vacations was another easy way to add to my post count. I’ve visited Montreal and Las Vegas a couple of times each, but the more interesting places were:
Amsterdam
Baltimore
Boston
Brussels
Chicago
Denver
Detroit
Las Vegas
Montreal
New Orleans
Philadelphia
Rochester
Needless to say, a lot of my observations are going to be outdated already.
Overall, I’d say it’s been worth it – especially when I see other people referring to my posts, or when I see one come up in the search engines.
Let me leave you with some farewells by the musical genius Carl Stalling:
